The Austin Transportation Department’s Vision Zero Program has an opening for a Business Process Specialist to address a core element of the overall safe systems approach of Austin’s Vision Zero program: Data Evaluation and Analysis. Significant program decisions depend on high quality data analysis to inform our initiatives and collaborations with other key agencies.
The Business Process Specialist will provide research and analytical support for a variety of initiatives related to traffic safety. This position will:
- Assist in daily updates of crash records to ensure accuracy of geospatial locations.
- Perform quality control on crash records for locations that will be scoped for engineering treatments in the future.
- Perform in-depth analysis on severe crashes, researching historical crash patterns and additional context to inform potential safety improvements.
- Perform research on pedestrian and bicyclist crashes, to identify trends and potential strategies for improving safety.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience using statistical tools or approaches for analysis.
- Experience in performing quality control checks on data from outside sources.
- Experience in using a variety of data sources to research an issue with appropriate context and understanding of an issue.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and other online software, including business intelligence tools.
- Experience working with different groups within an organization to ensure accuracy of analytical findings.
- Demonstrated experience in, and understanding of, what makes safer streets for all roadway users.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Graduation with Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in a field related to the job, plus four (4) years of experience in a field related to the job, including two (2) years of which were in a supervisory, project, or program management capacity.
Licenses or Certifications: Valid Texas Class C Driver License.
