About This Role
The Translational Biology group seeks a Laboratory Automation Engineer II/III with expertise in developing and implementing automation solutions in a research laboratory environment. In this role, you will design, program, implement, troubleshoot, and maintain automated solutions to Research laboratory workflows.
What You’ll Do
· Build and lead the laboratory automation operations capability within Research, evaluating needs and developing a long-term roadmap for automation, LIMS, and other lab requirements
· Use your expertise in instrumentation and scientific principles to program, maintain, and troubleshoot lab automation and other relevant equipment
· Design and optimize workflows, including workflows for NGS library construction and cell handling, translate manual workflows to automated solutions to shorten turnaround times, increase throughput and reduce costs
· Develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) and train bench scientists
· Work collaboratively with vendors, bench scientists, software engineers, automation engineers, and facilities staff

Qualifications
Required Skills
· Proficiency in using, programming, and troubleshooting liquid handlers and plate readers – Hamilton, Biomek, or other – and other automation software and hardware is required, including running and automating assays and automating protocols
· Expertise in designing and optimizing automated workflow including translating manual workflows to automated solutions
· Experience in writing, validating, and implementing lab SOPs and supporting documents
· Strong collaborative, organizational, and time management skills
· An MS degree in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Genomics, an Engineering discipline (Bio, Biomedical, or Mechanical), or related field with 2+ years of relevant automation experience, or a BS degree in the same fields with 4+ years of relevant automation experience
· Working knowledge of laboratory scheduling software and robotics systems such as HighRes Biosolutions’ Cellario or Biosero’s Green Button Go
· Demonstrated understanding of object-oriented programming (OOP) languages (Java, C++)
· Ability to quickly adapt to evolving technologies and methodologies
