Dakota Electric Association is seeking an Electrical Engineer to enhance the safety, reliability, and efficiency of our electrical distribution system. Position level will be determined by experience and credentials. This role involves conducting engineering studies, developing construction and technical standards, and implementing system improvements. The engineer will also oversee design and development projects, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and optimizing the use of our $20 million annual construction budget.
Key responsibilities include:
Evaluating and implementing new technologies to improve system performance.
Collaborating with field crews to identify and resolve system issues.
Leading significant engineering projects and coordinating across multiple departments.
Engaging with members and the public to address technical needs.

COMPENSATION: $91,080 - $184,644 depending on experience and credentials
Education: Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or Bachelor of Electrical Engineering (BEE) required for all levels.
Experience & Certification:
Engineer I: 2 years of experience preferred but not required. Fundamentals in Engineering (FE) exam preferred.
Engineer II: 4 years of experience in engineering or operations within an electrical distribution utility. FE exam required.
Engineer III: 5+ years of experience in engineering or operations within an electrical distribution utility. Professional Engineering (PE) certification in Minnesota required. Candidates with a PE license in another state may be considered but must obtain a PE license in Minnesota within 1 year from the date of hire to fulfill the role’s responsibilities.
Senior Engineer: 10+ years of experience in engineering or operations within an electrical distribution utility. Professional Engineering (PE) certification in Minnesota required. Candidates with a PE license in another state may be considered but must obtain a PE license in Minnesota within 1 year from the date of hire to fulfill the role’s responsibilities.
