Gynecologist Role Overview:
Perform a wide range of tests, including pap smears, pelvic exams, cancer screenings, and breast exams. Diagnose and prescribe treatments for disorders and diseases; diagnose and treat reproductive system disorders such as endometriosis, infertility, ovarian cysts, and pelvic pain; educate patients about disease prevention, detection, and reproductive health; stay up-to-date with current practices and innovations; cover ER call per service agreement; document all medical information in an electronic medical record; and perform other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities Include:
Veteran-Centered Care:
Deliver comprehensive gynecological services with an emphasis on health maintenance, disease prevention, patient education, and management of gynecologic conditions.
Promote shared decision-making with veterans and their families to achieve optimal health outcomes.
Clinical Excellence:
Perform gynecologic surgeries, including minimally invasive procedures, hysterectomies, and laparoscopy.
Manage preoperative and postoperative care for gynecologic patients.
Conduct outpatient gynecology clinics and provide inpatient consultations as needed.
Quality Improvement:
Participate in continuous quality improvement projects to enhance the delivery of care.
Utilize various quality measurement tools to monitor and improve clinical performance and patient outcomes.
Clinical Leadership:
Serve as a mentor and role model for other healthcare providers within the gynecology team.
Engage in educational activities, providing guidance and support to residents, students, and other trainees.
Healthcare Coordination:
Coordinate care for veterans involving specialty care, mental health services, and other ancillary services to ensure comprehensive healthcare delivery.
Collaborate with other healthcare providers to develop individualized treatment plans for veterans.
Use of Technology:
Utilize the VA's electronic medical record system for documentation, ordering of tests, and communication with patients and healthcare team members.

The Veterans Health Administration (VHA) is the largest integrated health care system in the United States, providing care at 1,321 health care facilities, including 172 VA Medical Centers and 1,138 outpatient sites of care of varying complexity (VHA outpatient clinics) to over 9 million Veterans enrolled in the VA health care program.
