MECHANICAL ENGINEER 1, MIT Kavli Institute, to support the design, development, fielding, and operation of complex astrophysics instruments and laboratory experimentation associated with spaceflight (e.g. GOSoX, AXIS) and ground (e.g. Giant Magellan Telescope) observatories in collaboration with faculty, students, research scientists, and engineering staff. Specialty experience in optical design and opto-mechanical mounting is desired. Under the tutelage of the Senior Mechanical Engineer, responsibilities include specification, optical and mechanical drafting, fabrication oversight, and assembly of both laboratory and flight-grade systems.
