Since its inception in 1905, the Carnegie Mellon Department of Chemical Engineering has been on the leading edge of research and innovation in chemical engineering. Today, this is truer than ever. The Department of Chemical Engineering (CHEG) is seeking a part-time Research Assistant for the Laird research lab. In this role, research work will include (1) developing open-source software for new capabilities, (2) analyzing results from research, (3) collaborating on scientific computing activities within the group, and (4) preparing reports and presentations to document the work.

Responsibilities:

• Performs basic data analysis in order to product reports. Documents results and processes.
• May test software prototypes. May interact with research subjects in order to perform job functions.
• Follows research plans in order to collect, record, and manipulate research data. Maintains accurate and detailed research records and files.
• Performs library research and field explorations.
• Performs related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• High School Degree or Equivalent Required
• BS in an engineering or computer science discipline or related field Preferred
• A strong record of successful software development, including scientific software experience
• Strong verbal/written communication skills
• Highly motivated and creative, enjoys working in a collaborative research environment
• A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.
