The Department of Radiology & Biomedical Imaging at Yale School of Medicine plays a vital role in advancing patient care, medical education, and imaging science. With 128 faculty members, the Department provides essential diagnostic and interventional imaging services across Yale New Haven Health, offering expertise in neuroradiology, musculoskeletal imaging, cardiothoracic imaging, breast imaging, and interventional radiology. As a critical hub for collaboration, the Department works closely with clinicians and researchers across Yale, ensuring that imaging is integrated into innovative treatment strategies and medical breakthroughs.
With a strong commitment to education, the Department trains future leaders in radiology through a well-regarded residency program and a variety of subspecialty fellowships. Research efforts within the Department span artificial intelligence, molecular imaging, and precision medicine, creating opportunities to shape the future of medical imaging. The next Chair will have the opportunity to guide the Department in optimizing clinical operations, expanding research initiatives, and strengthening faculty engagement to ensure continued excellence in academic radiology.
Reporting to the Dean of the School of Medicine, the Chair of the Department of Radiology & Biomedical Imaging provides leadership across all aspects of the Department?s mission: clinical care, research, and education. The Chair is responsible for guiding faculty, staff, and trainees while working closely with institutional leaders at Yale School of Medicine and Yale New Haven Health. They will oversee section chiefs and vice chairs, including those responsible for clinical operations, research, education, and faculty development.
The Chair will develop and implement a strategic vision to strengthen the Department?s clinical services, enhance its research portfolio, and ensure excellence in radiology education. A key priority will be fostering alignment between clinical and research faculty, refining compensation structures, and ensuring that incentives are transparent and equitable. The Chair will also work to strengthen faculty engagement, promote a culture of collaboration, and advocate for the Department?s needs at the institutional level.
As the field of radiology continues to evolve with advances in artificial intelligence, precision imaging, and interventional techniques, the Chair will play a critical role in ensuring that Yale remains at the forefront of innovation. They will collaborate with basic and clinical science leaders across Yale to support interdisciplinary research and expand the Department?s impact in imaging science. A strong commitment to faculty development and mentorship will be central to this role.
The Chair must be an effective communicator and advocate, ensuring that the Department?s goals align with the broader priorities of Yale School of Medicine and Yale New Haven Health. As a bridge between faculty and institutional leadership, they will play a key role in securing the resources necessary for the Department?s success while fostering an environment where faculty feel valued and supported in their professional growth.
