The Southern California College of Optometry at Marshall B. Ketchum University (MBKU) is seeking an outstanding individual who can contribute to our strong teaching, clinical, and research programs. A full-time tenure track faculty position is open for an individual with expertise in teaching anatomy and physiology. The position reports to the Dean of Optometry.
This position will be primarily didactic teaching in our Optometry and Master of Science in Vision Science programs. In addition, we would expect the individual to participate in our applied clinical science research program.
Faculty Duties and Responsibilities
Each faculty member is expected to participate actively in college life through their assigned responsibilities and by their individual actions to enhance ethics, standards, and service to others within the academic community. Faculty responsibilities may include teaching, student advising, faculty mentoring, research and scholarship, participation in governance, service to the institution, community and professional service, and administrative duties.

The faculty rank and compensation will be based on the candidates’ experience and track record.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Teach biomedical science courses with a primary focus on anatomy and physiology and pathophysiology. This includes courses on general anatomy and physiology and neurophysiology. The Candidate may be asked to teach additional courses depending on changes to degree programs and curriculum needs.
Teach lab sections as part of each course.
Develop and practice effective teaching strategies that foster success in students
Participate in the course coordination, development and/or selection of course materials, equipment, and technology that will enhance offerings of the College of Optometry program
Provide one-to-one and small group support to students at regularly scheduled times.
Conduct applied research with an emphasis in clinical vision science.
Have experience in teaching, and scholarship at a level appropriate for appointment.
Commitment to excellence in optometric education and fostering an equitable and inclusive learning and working environment.
Demonstrate ethical conduct, interpersonal and leadership skills.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to read, analyze and interpret scientific literature and academic publications.
Demonstration of ethical conduct, professionalism, interpersonal and leadership skills, and management abilities.
Preference will be given to candidates with prior experience in teaching higher education.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
A Master's or Ph.D. degree in Anatomy and/or Physiology or a closely related Biomedical science field. Preference will be given to candidates with a PhD in Anatomy and/or Physiology or previous teaching experience in Anatomy and/or Physiology or related field.
