The Ochsner Sports Medicine Institute (OSMI) in New Orleans invites applications for a full-time benefited, Health Informatics Researcher position. We seek Ph.D. and MD/Ph.D. trained applicants with expertise in the physiology of exercise to work with the institute’s world-class physicians performing research focused on careful examination of clinical outcomes in a variety of operative and non-operative treatments of sports medicine-related injuries. Highly qualified applicants may be considered for an assistant/associate professor position and an adjunct appointment at the University of Queensland School of Medicine. This position is not eligible for remote work. OSMI runs a program with over 160 athletic trainers, numerous operative and non-operative clinicians, physical therapists, and performance trainers. The program has locations throughout New Orleans and the state of Louisiana as well as the Mississippi Gulf Coast. It includes an operative fellowship training, an orthopedic residency, three board-certified orthopedists, and one sports medicine research fellow. OSMI also has residency programs in sports medicine assistantship and sports medicine physical therapy as well.
Job Duties
Develops a research portfolio as an independent investigator.
Pursues grant funding opportunities (federal, industry and/or philanthropic).
Presents scholarly work at conferences and/or publishes in peer-reviewed journals.
Works collaboratively with faculty on courses, research, and special projects related to health informatics.
Provides advanced analytics for health system-level, data-driven, clinical initiatives.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education
Required – PhD or master’s degree in biomedical informatics, bioinformatics, computational biology, computer science, or related field from an accredited school.
Preferred – PhD in in biomedical informatics, bioinformatics, computational biology, computer science, or related field from an accredited school or MD/DO.
Work Experience
Required – Track record of publications.
Completed post-doctoral training with PhD;
OR
5 years of relevant professional level experience with master’s degree in biomedical informatics, bioinformatics, computational biology, computer science, or related field from an accredited school.
Preferred – Track record of investigator-initiated research and related funding.
Certifications
Required – None.
Preferred – Nationally Recognized Informatics Certification or membership to national society.
