Under the supervision of the WCUCOM Dean, the Associate Dean, Preclinical Sciences is responsible for the administration of the OMS 1 and OMS 2 courses, as well as planning, developing, and assessing the competencies required of a successful osteopathic medical student. The Associate Dean, Preclinical Sciences oversees the curriculum of the OMS 1 and OMS 2 years and collaborates with the Assistant Dean, Assessment and Curricular Affairs to apply the assessment data to ensure the WCUCOM curriculum appropriately reflects the mission of WCUCOM, and that it is as contemporary as possible in terms of disciplines and delivery in 21st century medical education. He or she will also assist in student academic oversight and participate in courses as assigned.

Assist WCUCOM and WCU in the implementation of their respective Mission Statement(s), Statement(s) of Purpose, Institutional Plan(s), and Financial Plan(s)
Complete assigned tasks and participate in assigned work groups for preparing accreditation documents for all accrediting bodies
Works with the WCUCOM Dean, Associate Deans, Assistant Deans, Directors, Course Directors, and faculty to integrate and implement?WCUCOM?courses into a four-year, seamless curriculum using on-site, distance-learning, and other standard and emerging technologies, as well as developing competencies sought by graduate medical education programs
Serves as key administrator of OMS 1 and OMS 2 courses
Supervises and evaluates chairs and course directors of all biomedical OMS 1 and OMS 2 courses
Oversees and manages the faculty of OMS 1 and OMS 2 biomedical courses and assures yearly evaluations are performed; recommends hiring, promotion, and release of OMS 1 and OMS 2 faculty when necessary
Coordinates with the Assistant Dean, Assessment and Curricular Affairs and the Curriculum Council in course scheduling coordination and the faculty assignment process
Chairs the Curriculum Council;
Works with the Associate Dean, Student Affairs to evaluate and modify selection criterial of applicants based on the academic performance assessment data of current students
Supports and encourages professional development of faculty in tandem with the WCUCOM Faculty Congress, the Assistant Dean, Assessment and Curricular Affairs, and respective faculty and staff supervisors
In collaboration with the Associate Dean, Clinical Sciences and Assistant Dean, Assessment and Curricular Affairs, develops a comprehensive and innovative assessment and evaluation program (courses, rotations, students, faculty); together they will evaluate faculty and course performance data
Recommend hiring, promotion, and release of faculty and staff when necessary
Serves on?key WCUCOM and other?committees, as appointed
Directs the recruitment and interview process for prospective incoming faculty, and gathers the input of the faculty search committee(s) for all OMS 1 and OMS 2 faculty candidates
Prepares and recommends a preclinical sciences budget to the WCUCOM Director of Finance
Teaches in courses as qualified
Assists in the selection of students to attend WCUCOM
Monitors student progress toward graduation and recommends academic and professional disciplinary action when necessary
Serves as an ambassador to the local and national academic communities
Make contributions to the advancement of knowledge and the development of osteopathic medicine through scientific research and community service
Other duties as assigned by the WCUCOM Dean
Required Qualifications
Must have a terminal degree (PhD, DO, MD), and meets all COCA requirements in effect at the time of hire
Experience in academic medicine and administration
Experience in curriculum development and integration
Have excellent verbal and written communication skills
Be detailed oriented and have excellent interpersonal skills
Have expertise with Microsoft Office Suite products and the desire and ability to learn software/distance learning technologies
Be able to complete multiple assignments, meet deadlines, and exercise good judgment
Must have experience in proof reading and editing.
Must be punctual and able to work required hours.
Must have the ability to solve problems effectively.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in teaching and research in a?COCA-accredited osteopathic medical school or college
Experience in more than one preclinical (biomedical/preclinical/basic science) discipline
Experience in course development and curriculum integration
Expertise in cognitive development and assessment
Physical Demands
Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting
Must have vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone.
Must have the ability to sit for extended periods of time.
Must have the ability to lift and carry 25 pounds.
Must have the willingness and ability to travel throughout Mississippi and the Gulf States region.
