Rutgers School of Public Health is seeking a senior level (Associate or Full) Professor in Health Economics on the tenure track. Qualified candidates should have a doctoral degree in economics or equivalent. Additional requirements include. We are seeking a creative, collaborative faculty member who is motivated to understand and improve public health through scholarship, service, and policy development; will contribute actively to the teaching mission using modern pedagogical techniques; and will mentor MPH and doctoral students. Additional requirements include a demonstrated ability to develop and lead a program of health economics research, a strong record of scholarly achievement, sustained extramural research funding as Principal Investigator, experience in teaching, and mentoring a new generation of public health researchers, evidence of community engagement, and a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, justice, and anti-racism.

The ideal candidate will enhance, complement, and deepen our current department strengths, including but not limited to: public health policy interventions, health care access and utilization, health care decision-making, behavioral economics, analyses of provider behavior, financial toxicity/medical debt, health care coverage, and financing issues. Teaching assignments will include the MPH core course in Health Systems and Policy and the concentration required course in Heath Care Economics. Candidates interested in addressing health inequities, and those who can collaborate with faculty members in our other concentrations – Social and Behavioral Health Sciences, Population Mental Health, and Population Aging – will be prioritized.

This faculty member will be primarily affiliated with the Health Systems and Policy concentration in the department of Health Behavior, Society, and Policy. The faculty member shall:

• Lead a rigorous, externally funded research program in health economics
• Engage in scholarly activity including publications and presentation of research results at the national and international levels
• Contribute actively to the school’s teaching mission using modern pedagogical techniques
• Mentor MPH and doctoral students as well as early career faculty
• Provide service to and with the department, school, university, and communities/populations we serve
• Understand and adhere to Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences (RBHS) compliance standards as they appear in RBHS (legacy UMDNJ) Corporate Compliance Policy and Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy.

Successful applicants will have:

• A strong record of publications in health economics
• A sustained record of major extramural research funding as Principal Investigator
• Experience teaching at undergraduate and/or graduate level
• Experience mentoring masters and doctoral students as well as early career faculty
• Evidence of professional community service
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Evidence of a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, justice, and antiracism
