The Department of Population and Public Health Sciences (PPHS) at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California invites applications for a Biostatistician I position in computational biology/epigenetics for a study investigating effects of childhood maltreatment on epigenetic changes in adolescence and early adulthood. The selected candidate is expected to develop statistical analysis plans, conduct computationally demanding data analyses, and assist with dissemination of scientific results in peer-review publications. Drawing on the unique strengths of the USC School of Social Work, USC Keck School of Medicine, and Kaiser Permanente Southern California, the innovative research program involves an interdisciplinary team of established investigators and their collaborators in social sciences, epigenomics, genomics, biostatistics, bioinformatics and epidemiology. Since its founding in 1977, the Department has consistently ranked among the top 10 Schools of Public Health in terms of competitively-awarded funding from the U.S. National Institutes of Health and has leading programs in genomics and epidemiology.
Applicants with a MS or near completion in biostatistics or other related scientific fields (machine learning, data science, computational biology, systems biology) and interested in pursuing substantive research at the junction of epidemiology and determinants of epigenomic development in adolescence and early adulthood are welcome to apply. Applicants must have some training in molecular biology and a strong quantitative background with training in biostatistics or data science and prior experience analyzing high-dimensional multiscale data, longitudinal analysis, strong programming skills in the programming language R; additional programming skills in C++ and/or Python and a demonstrable track record of working in high-performance computing environments, Linux, and parallel processing are desirable. U.S. citizenship or permanent residency is NOT required.
