GCSOM was established through the grassroots efforts of visionary individuals who foresaw what a community-based medical school would bring to the region and worked to make it a reality. We offer an MD program distinctive for its personal education style and its community service component that grounds students in medical education, research issues and healthcare needs of the community. The Curriculum is focused on life-long learning, community engagement, and collaboration. Education is delivered using faculty discipline teams of both basic science and clinical faculty, and GCSOM focuses on these educational values through a commitment to patient-centered learning and personal professional development. GCSOM also provides a strong foundation in research to its students, partnered with our Office of Research and Scholarship. A robust range of research opportunities are offered including: a four-year Medical Research Honors Program, a Summer Research Immersion Program and longitudinal research opportunities on topics ranging from genomic health to primary care. In addition to the MD program, GCSOM offers a Master of Biomedical Sciences to help learners prepare for graduate study in the health sciences, enter a health-related field, or advance in their existing careers; the program has Scranton and Doylestown physical locations as well as an online option.
