Director Engineering Services

Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center is seeking a Director of Engineering Services. This position reports directly to the Vice President and is an integral part of our Facilities Management Division. The Director assumes responsibility for the direction and management of the departments of Biomedical and Facility Engineering Services to ensure the efficient accomplishment of repairs, maintenance, construction services and physical plant operation.

 Key Responsibilities:

• Directs the development, implementation, monitoring, and improvement of policies, procedures, programs, services, and systems for the repair, maintenance, safety and operation of equipment, buildings, building equipment, grounds, energy plant, and utility services.
• Develops, implements, and periodically tests emergency action plans to support the physical plant under conditions such as utility failure, internal or external disaster or fire. Ensures that all departmental personnel are trained and proficient in emergency actions.
• Establishes priorities for the provision of departmental services and direct supervisors in the delivery of those services. Develops a preventive maintenance program to meet the objectives of the department.
• Establishes and maintains the operating budgets. Works with the finance liaison to develop allocations. Authorizes departmental purchase orders and review departmental expenditures. Develops and pursues objectives and plans for the departments. Researches and devises solutions for special problems and projects.
• Evaluates, selects, and directs the installation of new systems and equipment. Participates in the selection and installation of major equipment for other departments.
• Maintains adequate number of qualified personnel for each component/function of the departments. Interviews, hires, trains, evaluates, counsels, and terminates personnel. Interprets policies and procedures, investigate suggestions, grievances, and personnel-related problems and determine appropriate action.
• Establishes and monitors the maintenance of record-keeping systems to document departmental activity and to meet regulatory requirements. Directs the preparation of reports, surveys, and statistics on workload and services provided by the department.
• Participates in the design, evaluation, and implementation of hospital projects and other construction work. Ensures compliance with all building and safety codes.
• Assumes responsibility for all aspects of facility compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Serves as a member of the Safety Committee, and acts as an emergency coordinator in accordance with Federal Haz Mat requirements.
• Develops and maintains a five-year capital investment plan.
• Supervises the planning and implementation of in-house remodeling projects. Assumes responsibility for the maintenance of facility standards.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering with 10 years of related experience including 5 years of supervisory experience in a hospital setting required.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
