This classification works with other technical classifications engaged in drafting and design work on the utility distribution system, which includes water, sewer, electrical, and landfill systems. This classification may assist in preparing special studies, pre-design, design, and construction management on the City’s Utilities. Responsibility of assuring the continuous and reliable transmission and distribution of Utility resources (power, water, and sewer) to the City of Boulder City.
Manages Technical aspects of Utility Capital Improvement Projects. Improves and maintains efficient utility systems (substations, relays, feeder circuits, lift stations, sewer mains, water mains, pressure reducing valves, etc.) through effective design and standard operating procedures. Conducts long-range engineering studies to determine future needs of the City. Establishes engineering standards for approved construction practices. Establishes and assures continued economic operation of the Utility system. Works with the public on matters related to the City’s electric utility, including assisting with community sponsored events and meeting with citizens to answer questions and resolve problems. Prepares long-range water, sewer, and power supply forecasts, conducts long range master plans for the utility. Inspects, monitors, and evaluates work-related information to determine compliance with standard operating and safety standards. Resolves procedural, operational, or other work-related problems regarding design and specifications involving field conditions. Makes recommendations on departmental procedures, short- and long-term objectives, plans for utility expansion and system integrity improvements. Conducts research and analyzes As-Builts Maps, customer specifications and plans, etc., regarding the operations or functioning of materials and equipment to ensure that the best possible product is used in the construction of utility facilities. Reviews and approves drawings and plans of utility facilities for utility customer and inspection of customer facilities. Manages utility mapping and SCADA systems. Performs related duties as assigned.
UTILITY ENGINEER I - Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and minimum four (4) years of full-time professional level experience in commercial, industrial, or governmental.
UTILITY ENGINEER II - Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and minimum four (4) years of full-time professional level experience in commercial, industrial, or governmental. Certification as a Professional Engineer in the State of Nevada.
