Salinas Valley Solid Waste Authority Invites Applications for: Resource Recovery Technician I/II
Under the direction of the Recycling Coordinator, performs a variety of duties focusing on AB 1826 and SB 1383 organics recycling mandates and programs but also including AB 939 and AB 341diversion & recycling programs and household hazardous waste collection.
Establish Programs - Works mainly with schools but also with vendors, businesses, multifamily complexes and public agencies to establish, enhance and track organics recycling programs and recycling/reuse programs; coordinates and executes special event recycling programs throughout service area; assists with identifying and promoting markets for reuse or recycled materials; works independently or in collaboration with marketing consultant preparing and maintaining stock of promotional materials, including brochures, advertisements and incentive giveaways; establishes and implements event and promotional schedules. Maintains Resource Recovery Calendar and Master Events Calendar; designs educational display materials; designs and implements landfill and household hazardous waste collection facility tours for students and community groups; conducts research and maintains current information and awareness regarding composting and waste reduction and recycling programs. Monitors success of programs through follow-up waste assessments and frequent correspondence. Writes reports and descriptions of programs.
Public Outreach – Provide information to students and the general public about environmental programs, including organics recycling and composting opportunities, recycling, electronics recycling, reuse programs, and proper disposal of household hazardous wastes. This is accomplished through several methods, including: representing Authority at special events by staffing informational booths, giving presentations, conducting workshops, creating videos, conducting multimedia ad campaigns, responding to telephone inquiries, making one-on-one contacts, developing and distributing educational materials and brochures, and performing waste assessments. Assists businesses and multifamily complexes with implementing more sustainable practices, including implementing environmentally preferred purchasing policies, alternatives to plastic packaging, etc. Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A valid class "C" California driver's license; One-year certificate from college or business school; or two years related experience in an office environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Associate degree (A.A.) from an accredited college or university, or one year in an office environment or related experience is desirable. Bilingual in English/Spanish is desirable.
