The Fred Wilson School of Pharmacy at High Point University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Pharmacology (Cardiovascular) at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor (commensurate with experience) in the Department of Basic Pharmaceutical Sciences. The School of Pharmacy utilizes a unique integrated curriculum that intercalates basic science with clinical applications using a team-teaching approach. The School seeks to recruit highly qualified and motivated individuals with a strong commitment to education and research. The Department of Basic Pharmaceutical Sciences is strongly research-oriented with faculty from diverse scientific disciplines and backgrounds who share a common interest in discovering, developing and optimizing drug therapies. Research programs span various aspects of drug design and synthesis, in silico and PK/PD modeling, molecular and systems pharmacology, drug delivery and analysis.
The Department seeks to continue to grow and develop by hiring applicants with expertise in cardiovascular pharmacology and/or toxicology. The Department has particular interest in candidates with competency in biochemical and cellular analysis, in vitro and/or in vivo models, receptor-ligand interactions, target characterization, pharmacogenomics and/or bioinformatics.
The Department of Basic Pharmaceutical Sciences is part of the Fred Wilson School of Pharmacy which was fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education in 2021. Education:
- Ph.D. in pharmacology, physiology, toxicology or related biomedical science field
Experience and Training:
- Postdoctoral experience and strong academic credentials in the discipline of pharmacology, physiology, toxicology or related field
- Medical or pharmacy academic teaching experience.
- Potential to procure and sustain extramural research funding
- Develop and maintain a research program
Knowledge, Skills, Ability:

- Contribute to the educational and research missions of the department, school and university
Preferred:
- Record of excellence in teaching and research, and a commitment to excellence in biomedical education and research.
- Prior success in extramural funding
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Participation in didactic, computational, and laboratory teaching activities covering pharmacology, physiology, and related courses within the HPU School of Pharmacy curriculum as determined by the Department Chair
- Provide mentorship and advisement for students in the School of Pharmacy.
- Communicate teaching and research activities through frequent and effective communication with the Department Chair.
- Procure and/or maintain an externally funded research program in pharmacology or areas related to the discipline of pharmacy.
- Publish scientific findings in high-quality peer-reviewed journals and present research at national and international meetings.
- Integrate and enhance interactions between the basic sciences, clinical sciences and pharmacy practice in areas of research, education, and service. Translate novel technologies into clinical investigation and collaborate with other basic researchers or clinical investigators.
- Advance the service missions of the Fred Wilson School of Pharmacy and High Point University to meet community needs. Act as a representative and advocate for the department, the school of pharmacy and the University.
- Actively participate in committees within the department, School, University and in professional and governmental organizations.
- Supervise and annually evaluate support staff in the laboratory.
- Undertake other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Chair of BPS.
