We are seeking a highly qualified and motivated Statistical Geneticist or Biostatistician with a strong background in statistics and computational biology interested in integrating human genetics and functional genomics to study the biological causes of complex eye diseases. The candidate will work under the supervision of Dr. Ayellet Segrè in the Ocular Genomic Institute and Department of Ophthalmology at Massachusetts Eye and Ear (MEE) that is a vibrant, multidisciplinary research community of geneticists, clinician scientists, experimental biologists, and computational biologists. MEE is a teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School and is an international leader for treatment and research in both Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology. The Segrè lab develops and applies statistical and computational methods that integrate large-scale human genetic association and sequencing studies with functional genomic data (e.g., eQTLs, single cell RNA-seq data) to identify causal regulatory mechanisms, genes, pathways and pathogenic cell types that lead to common eye diseases, with the ultimate goal of proposing new preventative and therapeutic targets for eye disease. The Segrè lab is also affiliated with the Broad Institute of Harvard and MIT and its Medical and Population Genetics community. The successful candidate will have a strong background in biostatistics, statistical genetics, computational genomics, bioinformatics, or a related quantitative field, and strong programming skills, and should be excited to contribute to advancing the science and medicine of eye disease. Research experience with large-scale genomic data desired. Research projects may involve genetic analyses of whole genome and whole exome sequencing data of glaucoma and other eye diseases using, a pharmacogenetic study of diabetic retinopathy treatment, as part of a Diabetic Retinopathy Clinical Research Network genetics study, polygenic risk score analyses of large-scale genotype-phenotype Biobank studies, and integration of GWAS with single cell RNA-seq and other functional genomics data to identify novel genetic risk factors and biological processes associated with complex eye diseases. Being a member of our group will provide an opportunity to contribute to large research efforts in the rapidly evolving field of genomics and human disease.
