Main Purpose & Function
The Senior Transportation Planning Engineer provides leadership, forward thinking and strategic expertise to the City’s transportation planning projects and initiatives.
This position is responsible for collaborating and advocating with external regional and senior government partners, including those with significant funding and policy implications. The position will provide leadership to review and assess transportation initiatives, to support City elected officials and senior leadership staff on regional committees and boards (e.g. Regional Transportation Advisory Committee (RTAC), and Mayors’ Council), through the Manager of Transportation Planning. The position is also responsible for leading regional transportation planning initiatives, such as coordinating regional greenway and cycling network connections, municipal cost-sharing programs, or regional major road network management plans. The position will also contribute to developing transportation capital plan, such as coordinating the Transportation Division in developing a 10-year Capital Strategic Outlook.
Key Contacts and Reporting Relationships
The position reports to the Manager, Transportation Planning Branch and manages a team comprised of Engineers and Planners. The position works cross-functionally with other transportation branches, other City departments and external stakeholders, such as TransLink, Metro Vancouver, Port of Vancouver and partner municipalities to develop, inform and shape future City transportation policy, and the transportation response to regional initiatives and major projects.
