Work includes performing a variety of engineering duties involved with design, construction, report preparation, review and inspection of civil engineering projects. Work is performed under the direction of registered professional engineers who issues assignments, provides guidance, and reviews work to ensure that it is performed according to instructions and in accordance with generally acceptable principles and practices of civil engineering.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Under the direction of registered professional engineers, may perform the following functions: Perform layouts, drafting and design work on a variety of projects utilizing computer-aided drafting and design (CADD). Design work may include highways, streets, roads, bridge layouts, and culverts; traffic control devices; subdivisions; site plans; drainage studies; stormwater systems (conveyance, water quality and water quantity); wastewater collection systems; water distribution systems; and other functions, as assignedPrepares construction contract documentsPrepares and reviews engineering plans, reports, studies, and other documentsPrepares cost estimates, specifications, special provisions, special specifications and other documentsPrepares engineering plans, reports or studies and reviews calculations and the work of othersDesign and review projects for compliance with local ordinances, state and federal statutes and regulations, and adopted standards, or policiesMeets with current or prospective clientsMakes presentations to clients, governmental entities and othersPerforms inspections and evaluations of construction work in progress and prepares appropriate reports; calculates and verifies pay quantities for construction contracts pay applicationsReviews the testing of materials and interprets results to ensure compliance with project specifications and prepares written reports and recommends alternatives when necessaryReviews shop drawings and issues written recommendationsProvides technical assistance as requiredParticipates in technical review meetings and other meetings with engineering and other staffPerforms other duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:Knowledge of:Higher level mathematics, including trigonometry, algebra, geometry, and calculus, and its application to surveying and engineering computationsEngineering principles, practices, and proceduresCurrent literature, trends, and developments in the field of civil engineering, and the ability to stay current with new developmentsAutoCAD and AutoCAD Civil 3D Software

A Bachelor of Science degree in engineering from an accredited college or university or registration as an Engineer-In-Training in Texas. Proof of compliance is required.
