The Gwinnett County Department of Transportation (DOT) consists of three groups: Intermodal Operations, Capital Program Delivery and Traffic Engineering, Operations and Maintenance. The Department maintains an infrastructure system that includes more than 2,600 miles of road, over 740 signalized intersections, thousands of miles of traffic striping, the Gwinnett County Transit (GCT) System and one of the three busiest airports in Georgia. The Department performs this mission with 172 approved full-time positions and a 2021 adopted operating budget of $48.7 million in multiple funds. Gwinnett County DOT has many specific transportation focused Information Technology (IT) needs and as technology moves forward, the need for specialized IT support will only increase. Gwinnett County DOT is seeking an individual that understands both transit and traffic technology. This person will be critical in shepherding the County through this new frontier and will put Gwinnett at the forefront in the coordination efforts within the region and potentially nationwide. Currently, each of the nearly 100 GCT buses essentially hosts an on-board server operating a variety of fare collection, vehicle location and Wi-Fi systems. In the Traffic Engineering Division, the communications system includes 230 miles of fiber and over 300 devices connected via cellular. With the implementation of the Smart Corridor, the Connected Vehicle Master Plan, emergency vehicle preemption, transit signal priority, and Automated Traffic Signal Performance Measures (ATSPM), network traffic demand will continue to increase, and the necessity to bridge the technology between Traffic Engineering and Transit will be critical for successful operations.This position is a Grade 105.
