We currently have an outstanding opportunity available for a qualified professional to inspect public works construction in progress by contractors and perform related work as needed. You will inspect the construction of streets, curbs, gutters, storm drains, sewers, grading projects, water mains, reservoirs, underground vaults, and allied structures to ensure work meets contract specifications, permit limitations or work orders; inspect any phase of construction including grading, trenching, compaction, backfilling, mixing of concrete or asphalt aggregates, placement of forms, pouring and finishing of concrete or asphalt, placement of reinforcing steel; take samples of work for tests, inspect materials for conformance with specifications, and determine the aggregate mix of concrete or asphalt is within limits stated in specifications; determine construction and inspection are in accordance with State and City safety regulations; report to superior work not in accordance with specifications if contractor representative does not agree to change; make written reports of inspections and volume of work completed; inspect private construction of driveways and sidewalks performed under permit to insure conformity with City ordinances; cooperate with inspectors from Building Department who inspect projects for conformance with Building Code; make reports of physical conditions of City streets or other City property; and occasionally drive on City business. We offer a starting salary of $5,299 to $7,305 per month ($30.57 - $42.14 per hour) plus superb benefits including a City-contributed retirement plan, cafeteria-style health benefits, and tuition reimbursement.
