Job DescriptionThe College of Engineering at Texas A&M University invitesapplications for a full-time tenured professor and departmenthead for the Zachry Department of Civil & EnvironmentalEngineering with an 11-month academic appointment. Thecollege is seeking a dynamic, innovative, and visionary leaderwho can continue to advance the department. The successfulapplicant will be an innovative thinker with a strategic visionfor guiding the department to a higher level of excellencewho can communicate this vision to a constituency thatincludes academia, government, industry, and formerstudents. The candidate must have notable accomplishmentsand experience in research, academic or industry leadership,teaching, and scholarship.Candidates must demonstrate a vision for supporting,directing, and enhancing the goals of the department. Thisleadership position includes opportunities for researchand teaching as well as expanding the department’sinterdisciplinary research in visionary areas.
The department head will:• Demonstrate leadership, mentoring, and administrativeskills;• Promote continued growth of the department inresearch excellence, faculty engagement, and graduateeducation;• Lead and motivate high standards for continuedexcellence and innovation in undergraduate education;• Build commitment and support for the departmentfrom a wide variety of constituent groups such asformer students, industry, and government laboratories;• Provide effective and transparent budget managementand promote an environment of integrity to stimulatefaculty, staff, and students to succeed at the highestlevels;• Organize the pursuit of research funding opportunities(grants and contracts) and fund-raising campaigns forscholarship and endowments through strengtheningrelationships with diverse stakeholder groups;• Facilitate collaborations with the Texas EngineeringExperiment Station (TEES), the Texas A&MTransportation Institute (TTI), the Center forInfrastructure Renewal (CIR), the Offshore TechnologyResearch Center (OTRC), and other system components.• Continue a successful distinguished research andacademic record commensurate with the title oftenured full professor.
