This is a full-time represented position.
In May 2019 the City Council selected Michael Ciaravino as Mill Creek’s new City Manager. The administrative team is meaningfully transforming and reorganizing its City government capturing momentum and carefully constructing Mill Creek’s management team, emphasizing ethics, professionalism, sophistication, and diversity.
The City of Mill Creek is in an exciting new stage of reorganization. The Public Works and Development Services Department provides vital services to the community of Mill Creek, combining planning, economic development, and public works. The newly constituted Public Works Engineering team, comprised of the City Engineer, Project Engineer, and Surface Water Engineer, will have the opportunity to contribute to a city organization that is aligned with best practices, efficiency, technical advancements, and innovation.
THE SURFACE WATER ENGINEER POSITION
The City is seeking a dynamic professional engineer with broad experience in operating a municipal storm water utility and maintaining NPDES permit compliance. The Surface Water Engineer will provide management and oversight of the City’s Surface Water system, working with the Public Works Maintenance and Operations team to establish processes and address issues with both public and private surface water infrastructure. The City has been without a surface water specialist for several years, and procedures and processes for the system need to be updated and institutionalized. Furthermore, the City’s surface water infrastructure is aging: the Surface Water Engineer will be responsible for working with consultants to design and implement repairs to aging stormwater conveyance structures, and lead the specification and design of water quality improvement projects. This is an excellent opportunity to demonstrate how you can apply your experience and ideas to establishing a well-run Surface Water Utility.
The ideal candidate will have broad public works engineering and surface water experience, and a willingness to learn and expand their horizons. Our team-oriented approach means the Surface Water Engineer will be partnering with others to share engineering project tasks as department workload varies. Candidates who excel in a collaborative team environment and who are dedicated to continuous process improvement will find this to be an ideal opportunity to be proud of their work and grow in experience and responsibility. Excellent written and oral communication skills will be key to success with the public, partners, and all levels of the organization.
