JOB SUMMARY:
Uses SQL to Design, model, and develop data models and ETL solutions necessary for Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence solutions, under occasional guidance. Provides support services for database object creation, performance, monitoring, tuning and capacity planning. Builds physical data structures. Enforces policies and procedures for maintaining the security and integrity of the database. Implements small development projects or components of large projects. Department/Unit Summary:
The mission of the Vanderbilt Department of Biomedical informatics has complementary themes that include education, research, service, and a commitment to our colleagues in our own institution and around the world. The Educational Mission is to educate undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate trainees in the theory and practice of biomedical informatics. The Research and Service Mission is to develop and evaluate innovative technologies for the storage, retrieval, dissemination, and application of biomedical knowledge, in order to support clinical practice, biomedical research, life-long learning, and administration and as a result, to contribute to the professional body of knowledge in the field of biomedical informatics. The Professional and Ethical Mission is to maintain cooperation and collegiality with all those who learn and work with us locally, nationally, and internationally; and, to develop and disseminate ethical and professional standards for the conduct of biomedical informatics research and for the use and evaluation of health care informatics applications.

Additional Key Elements/ Responsibilities:
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: -
* Maintains primary responsibility and oversight for multiple large patient databases with millions of rows of data.
* Designs, develops, modifies and implements database systems programs and applications using T-SQL, Data Modelling, and Relational Database design.
* Actively writes SQL queries with minimal supervision from faculty supervisors.
* Serves as technical resource to users and others in the research group in the field of database management.
* Liaisons with information architects to develop data models for the repository.
* Supports Informatics and clinical research personnel for database manipulation, data cleaning, and analysis activities.
* Actively identifies and participates in training, education and development activities to improve own knowledge and performance to sustain and enhance professional development.
