- Detailed fire protection design knowledge as it applies to fire alarm systems
- Must be intimately familiar with NFPA 13 and 14, including differences between versions, recent updates, and the intent of the code.
- Knowledgeable in an array of NFPA codes and standards, including, but not limited to: 20, 30, 72, 92, 101, 110, 130, 415, 502 and 2001.
- Familiar with model building codes and their fire alarm requirements.
- Familiar with local building codes and their fire alarm requirements
- Proficient in AutoCAD 2008 or higher, proficient in Revit 2012 and knowledge of MS Office Suite
- Familiar with passive building fire alarm, including power distribution, fire stopping, etc.
- Has general knowledge of fire alarm engineering, including fire detection, mass notification, hazard analysis, egress, code consulting, fire dynamics, smoke management, and egress systems.
- Candidate should be able to orally communicate complex design and technical ideas to other designers and engineers as well as people with a nontechnical background.
- Candidate must possess excellent writing skills, capable of writing reports, letters, and facilitating effective internal and external communication.
Education/Experience Minimum: Associates Degree in Engineering Technology or Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) with 5 years’ experience directly related to fire protection.
Preferred Education/Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Fire Protection Engineering Technology with 5 years’ experience in fire protection engineering related work.
Preferred Certifications: Engineering in Training (EIT); NICET Level II certification in Water Based System Layout; Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS); NICET Certification in Special Hazard Suppression Systems, Inspection, Testing and Maintenance of Water-Based Systems or Fire Alarm Systems.
