The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) Library is excited to begin recruiting for a Health Sciences Informationist/Librarian. We are seeking candidates from the field of health education, health promotions, public health practitioners and librarians. We are looking for individuals with a passion for working in a world-class academic medical environment and a desire to work on a collegial team of experienced, nationally recognized health information professionals.
Recently we have increased opportunities for extended activities within the fields of outreach, education, research, and clinical areas of UAMS. As an informationist/librarian with position-specific responsibilities, you will also serve as Liaison to assigned departments, units and colleges.
As a member of the Education and Research Services (E&RS) Team, you will provide research, reference and instructional services to UAMS faculty, staff and students. The successful candidate will receive training in expert searching, reference interviews, research collaborations, and instructional methods for teaching biomedical information resources. This faculty member will be mentored in professional development including learning about professional organizations, continuing education opportunities, publishing, research, and promotion requirements. New graduates or those obtaining the required masters degree by December 2020 are welcome to apply.
This position reports to the Head of E&RS and works in a team-oriented environment. This is a full-time, non-tenured faculty position with rank and salary commensurate with the individual’s education and experience. E&RS faculty are strongly encouraged to participate in professional activities, which may include service to professional associations, contributions to the profession’s knowledge base through research, conference presentations, creation/teaching of continuing education courses or original publications. The pursuit of expertise and improvement of professional skills are encouraged.
The general responsibilities of this position include teaching about biomedical information resources, conducting literature searches, participating in liaison and outreach activities, and consulting on information resources for projects. As a member of the E&RS team, this informationist/librarian works to promote awareness of library services and resources at UAMS to affiliated institutions. Shared responsibilities for Library’s social media are included as are creation of LibGuides (web pages) and tutorials.

The UAMS Library serves the health information needs of the citizens in Pulaski County and provides support to the rest of the state through a nationally renowned network of Regional Center Libraries (formerly AHECs). This Library also serves as the only Resource Library in the state for the Network of the National Library of Medicine.
