The job: As the central figure in leading and overseeing the complete transportation project life cycle (cradle to grave ownership), area managers supervise and mentor project managers (PM) and resident engineers (RE), who supervise or lead teams of technical and/or engineering staff assigned to specific projects. Area managers ensure that appropriate communication and collaboration is maintained (internally and externally) throughout the selection, development and implementation of projects under their jurisdiction. They provide clarity on how to accomplish significant transitions, from community stakeholder involvement and the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) approval process at the beginning to the hand-off to Transportation Operations and Maintenance once a project is completed.
In this key role, you will be the first point of escalation for technical and/or operational problem resolution, and ensure that issues are worked quickly and completely, and that the appropriate technical and engineering decision-makers are involved in the solution/resolution.
