The City of Staunton is seeking a collaborative and innovative leader who performs complex professional work overseeing the planning, design and inspection of engineering projects in the City. This individual will have thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of civil engineering as applied to the development and construction of public works projects, and; knowledge of: water modeling software, computer aided design and mapping and Surveying Principles and Practice. The individual will have the ability to: plan, lay out and direct the work of subordinates; plan projects and prepare related designs, estimates and specifications; perform difficult engineering computations and to make comprehensive recommendations on engineering problems and planning; establish and maintain effective working relationships with City officials, employees, contractors and the general public; communicate complete ideas effectively, orally and in writing and; calculate complex cost reports. The individual must have skill in the use of civil engineering instruments and equipment.
Applicants must possess a Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with a minimum of five years of experience in professional civil engineering work. Prior municipal experience desired but not required. Must be licensed as a professional engineer in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Must have completed or be eligible to complete VDOT's Locally Administered Projects Qualifications Program. A commitment to customer service and citizen involvement is required. Must also be committed to continual development and learning.
