ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE DEAN FOR DIVERSITY, INCLUSIVITY, EQUITY, AND COMMUNITY INITIATIVES
The Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine (HWCOM) at Florida International University (FIU) invites applications for a full-time, open-rank position as the Assistant/Associate Dean for Diversity, Inclusivity, Equity, and Community Initiatives. This position will provide strategic leadership within the HWCOM and work collaboratively across FIU and the greater South Florida community to develop and implement programs to engender broad diversity and inclusivity among students, faculty, and staff at the HWCOM; will ensure the College's diversity and inclusivity programs are aligned with University initiatives and strategic plans; and will serve as a spokesperson and visible advocate for diversity, inclusivity, and social justice. In addition, the Assistant/Associate Dean will be responsible for building community outreach and educational pipeline programs that will inspire and encourage college and pre-college students of diverse backgrounds - racial, ethnic, gender identity, sexual orientation, and religious - to pursue careers in the biomedical sciences and/or healthcare fields. As a member of the Dean's executive leadership team, the Assistant/Associate Dean for Diversity, Inclusivity, Equity, and Community Initiatives will have a strategic position responsible for championing organizational change, fostering student diversity, promoting institutional awareness of, and responsiveness to, issues related to social justice. The candidate will develop programs, services, and initiatives designed to advance effectiveness in areas of cultural competence and inclusion, and will work in conjunction with other senior leadership and external constituents to facilitate the successful recruitment, professional development, and retention of faculty, staff and students from diverse and under-represented communities. The candidate will report to the Dean and work closely with and support relevant efforts of the Dean’s Diversity and Inclusivity Advisory Council, the Faculty Assembly Steering Committee, and the Executive Associate Deans for Student Affairs, Research, and Academic Affairs.
The candidate must be an accomplished professional with MD, PhD, EdD, or other graduate-level degree and a minimum of 5 years of leadership experience in achieving a new standard of excellence in diversity, inclusivity, and community partnership. Preferred qualifications include a track record of creating novel pipeline community programs to provide pertinent education and exposure of pre-college students comprising underrepresented minorities to the biomedical sciences and/or healthcare fields and experience with Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) accreditation standards.
