DUTIES: Provide design support to Project Managers and Project Engineers during the planning, design and construction phases of FDOT, County and City transportation projects. Specific duties include: Design and plan set preparation on technically challenging projects. Work on various highway projects. Work on application of Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Design Manual, FDOT Design Standards, AASHTO Policy on Geometric Design of Highways and Streets, & applicable County/City Technical Standards/Guidelines. Develop preliminary engineering treatments to determine construction feasibility and estimate costs using Transportation Drafting Software like AutoCAD, MicroStation, Geopak, and AutoTURN. Prepare and check project design, calculations, drawings and quantities (takeoffs) for transportation-related projects including highways, drainage, utilities, roadway lighting, traffic control devices, asphalt, earthwork and miscellaneous highway facilities. Prepare preliminary engineering reports and contract documents. Assist in the preparation of Traffic Control Plans. Attend and assist in pre-construction/construction field reviews and visits. Analyze different types of pavement reports and suggest design solutions based on current Pavement Design Manuals. Work with FDOT drainage design manuals, Bluebeam, Adobe Acrobat, AutoCAD and MicroStation.
REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or other closely related discipline plus 1 year of experience. Foreign degree equivalent is acceptable. Experience to include working with FDOT drainage design manuals, Bluebeam, Adobe Acrobat, AutoCAD and MicroStation.
HOURS: 40 hours per week, M-F, 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
