Operate the AEPCO transmission system as a NERC-certified system operator to provide optimal reliability for the AEPCO transmission system. Monitor system reserves and respond to shortages to maintain reserves in accordance with NERC, WECC and SRSG requirements. Direct the operations of substations and transmission lines to ensure transmission capacity to meet all customer load requirements. Assess system conditions and initiate call-out of emergency crews from AEPCO and member cooperatives to restore equipment to normal. Monitor AEPCO transmission usage via Open-Access Same-Time Information System (OASIS) and Electronic Tagging (E-Tag). Provide load and resource balancing functions for the AEPCO metered sub-system. A Power System Controller III will be required, within 3 months, to complete NERC Certification (BI&T or RC) and within an additional 3 months to complete AEPCO/NERC Job Task List.
• Three - five years of prior experience in transmission, generation, power marketing, or balance and interchange scheduling. • Ability to direct other operating personnel.• Required to be NERC certified (BI&T or RC) within 3 months.• Required to pass the AEPCO/NERC Job Task List within 3 months after obtaining NERC Certification.• High level of intellectual ability.• High level of multi-tasking abilities.• Above average mathematical aptitude.• High level of communication skills including 3-part communications.• Reasonable mechanical aptitude.• Ability to pass 7-Year background check.• High computer literacy.• Basic understanding of thermal generators.• Basic knowledge of AEPCO and WECC power systems.• Testing required for intellectual, logic, mathematical and communication skills along with psychological fitness.• Any equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience can be substituted for requirements listed above.
