Vallejo is also home to Six Flags Discovery Kingdom, one of America's only combination wildlife, oceanarium and theme parks.THE DEPARTMENTThe Water Department provides administrative, engineering, water treatment, and maintenance support for the City's potable water treatment and distribution. Our stringent criteria and regulations ensure we meet or exceed all regulations set forth by the State Water Resources Control Board and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The Water Department works with the community and local schools to provide education related to conservation and current rebate programs.THE ENGINEERING DIVISIONThe Engineering Division of the Vallejo Water Department works to manage and implement the Water Department's capital improvement program (CIP), consisting of the replacement and renewal of water assets in the City of Vallejo's water system, including tanks, reservoirs, pump stations, pipelines, dams, valves, and water treatment plant facilities. In addition, the Engineering Division provides engineering reviews for new development projects, and reviews projects from outside agencies that may affect the Water Department. The Engineering Division aids the Distribution, Facilities, and Operations divisions with their goals to safely and efficiently operate the water system; to help the City meet all Federal and State requirements; to protect public health, and to ensure the system meets the fire-flow needs of the City. The Division also aids in the management of the City's long-term water supply and in protecting the City's water rights for future generations.The Department has recently passed new water rates, and has a new 5-Year CIP that significantly increases yearly investments in water infrastructure. These projects will consist mostly of water pipeline replacement and renewal, treatment plant upgrades, pump station improvements, and dam improvements. THE POSITIONThis recruitment is being conducted to fill our vacancies in the Engineering Division of the Water Department. These vacancies can be filled at the Assistant Engineer level (no PE required) or the Associate Civil Engineer level (PE required), depending on the qualifications of the candidate pool. Employees within this class are distinguished from the Assistant Engineer by the performance of the full range of duties as assigned including independent development of engineering designs and managing complex design/construction projects and studies. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise, and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit.This position will perform professional, complex engineering work involving the design, investigation and construction of water projects including construction of pipelines, storage facilities, pumping facilities, and treatment plant improvements; and to act as a project manager on assigned projects.SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISEDAssistant Engineer - Receives direction from professional engineering staff and/or higher level management staff.Associate Civil Engineer - Receives direction from higher level management staff.Exercises functional and technical supervision over professional engineering staff.May exercise direct supervision over technical engineering staff.
