The City of Tallahassee Electric & Gas Utility has an immediate opening for a protection and controls engineer to provide operational support for our system.

Tallahassee’s Electric & Gas Utility provides reliable energy services to over 123,000 electric customers in a 221 square mile service territory that includes both the City of Tallahassee and portions of the unincorporated areas of Leon County, as well as over 32,000 gas customers in a four-county service area. A full service vertical electric utility, Tallahassee has 700 MW of generation, 220 miles of transmission (115kv & 230 kv), 28 substations, and 3.,000+ miles of primary/secondary distribution. Tallahassee Electric & Gas has been recognized nationally and regionally for its strong performance. These recognitions have included the APGA Gas System Achievement Award, APPA’ s E. F. Scattergood Award, two APPA DEED Energy Innovator Awards, FMEA Safety Award, six time APPA Reliable Public Power Provider with the most recent being at the Diamond level, and Power Magazine naming the City’s Hopkins Generating Plant one of the Top Six Gas Fired Power Plants in the World.
The current opportunity is within the Electric System Operations System Protection and Communications team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the relay protection and control engineering associated with substation and transmission projects up to 230KV as well as generator protection systems. This is includes preparing calculations and settings for various types of microprocessor based relays as well as development of one-lines and schematic diagrams, and project management and oversight of various projects or maintenance activities.
