The Department of Internal Medicine, University of South Florida, Morsani College of Medicine is accepting applications and nominations for the position of Director, Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, & Sleep Medicine. The position will remain open until it is filled.
This position will report to Dr. John Sinnott, Chairman of the Department of Internal Medicine (USF-IM).
Our Department of Internal Medicine is a thriving academic enterprise built upon educational excellence, superb research, and compassionate patient care of the highest quality. USF medical students have repeatedly voted USF-IM ”Best Clinical Teaching Service” at the USF College of Medicine. Nationally, the AAMC, ranks USF-IM in the top 4% of internal medicine programs in preparing students for residency. Additionally, our faculty engage in capacity building programs in 32 countries—from Panama to China to Bangladesh—teaching leadership, quality improvement, and global health via a bilateral exchange of scholars.
In research, USF-IM has 18 faculty responsible for substantial NIH funding as reported by the Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research (BRIMR). Our faculty’s research interests include malaria, HIV, pulmonary fibrosis, diabetes and lung transplantation.
We have inpatient and outpatient services at Tampa General Hospital, the Moffitt Cancer Center and the James A. Haley Veteran’s Hospital (VAMC). In addition, the departmental clinics operate as a certified Patient-Centered Medical Home where innovative teaching is welcome.
As is expected of each of our Divisions, the faculty in Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine has a long history of excellence in clinical care and education and is growing its research program.
We seek an academic physician with a strong focus on research and research program development. The candidate will lead and develop the Division’s clinical, educational, and research programs with a commitment to excellence at all levels. A demonstrated passion for articulating vision, achieving objectives, embracing change, and leading transformation is desired.
The Division’s 24 faculty practice in our all our partner hospitals and run a thriving lung transplant team at Tampa General Hospital. Division faculty members provide exclusive post-operative care in the Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (CTICU), manage the medical ICU and house-staff ICU rotations, and provide consultative ICU care for the stroke service and for private physicians.
The full array of clinical services includes an outpatient clinic, pulmonary rehabilitation, interventional pulmonary services, sleep disorders, pulmonary hypertension care and thoracic oncology services.
The USF Health Morsani College of Medicine enrolled its first class in 1971. The college awards doctorates in Medicine (MD), as well as PhD and MS degrees in Medical Sciences. The School of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Sciences offers a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT). Specially designed programs are available, including combined MD/MBA and MD/MPH programs. MCOM provides a wide range of master’s degrees and graduate certificates in emerging fields, such as biotechnology, bioinformatics, and metabolic and nutritional medicine.
