The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration's (MDOT SHA) Office of CHART & ITS Development (Anne Arundel County) is recruiting for a Deputy Director, Systems (DOT Executive IV) Executive Service position. This recruitment is open to anyone who meets the preferred qualifications listed below. This position is Executive Service (the incumbent serves at the will of the appointing authority).
The main purpose of this position is to share responsibility with the Director in leading and managing the activities of the Office of CHART & ITS Development. These activities include planning, funding, development, deployment operations and maintenance of MDOT SHA’s statewide Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) program, CHART. The two primary elements of CHART are a complex control system that drives a diverse field infrastructure of traffic management devices and an incident management program with satellite operation centers in the Baltimore and Washington regions. This position as the DOT Executive IV ES will play a key role in the strategic planning, architecture and design efforts of the CHART program.
Preferred Qualification: EDUCATION: A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. EXPERIENCE: Eight (8) years of experience in professional transportation planning, engineering, and or operations, including three (3) years of supervisory engineering, construction, maintenance, program or consultant management experience.
Notes: 1. U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as defined under the Minimum Qualifications may be substituted for the required education and experience on a year-for-year basis.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE SHOULD HAVE:
1. Be proficient in maintaining budget, schedule and systems for multiple projects.2. Have an in depth understanding of national TSM&O practices and ITS Systems.
3. Have expert knowledge of traffic engineering principles, federal/state traffic engineering regulations, policies, standards, and guidelines. 4. Have excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS: Candidate must possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland. All applicants must list their license number and expiration date on the application.
