Queen Anne's County is home to 49,000 resident situated on the Eastern Shore of the Chesapeake Bay and spanning 511 square miles with hundreds of miles of shoreline on the Bay and its tributaries. The County's main population and business center is Kent Island, an unincorporated area consisting of over 18,000 of the County's residents.
The service area is composed of an 8 miles long by 3 miles wide strip of US Route 50/301 from the Chesapeake Bay Bridge to the west to just short of the US 50/301 split in the east and encompasses much of Kent Island, the largest island within the Chesapeake Bay. The sewer service area services approximately 1/3 of the County's population where as the water area serves approximately 1/5.
The Sanitary District currently operates and maintains a single Enhanced Nutrient Removal wastewater treatment plant which has a 3.0 MGD capacity and is one of the few that discharge directly into the Chesapeake Bay.
There are 11 water treatment plants, 4 towers, 6 ground storage tanks and 60 miles of water mains. A new 2 MGD membrane plant is currently under design.
The annual operating budget is $10 million with 56 full time staff.
This position manages the operation and maintenance of Queen Anne's County Sanitary District to ensure compliance by the District with all applicable state and federal permits and regulations.
Bachelor of Science degree in civil, sanitary or environmental engineering or related filed from an accredited four-year college or university and four years of engineering experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must be licensed as a Professional Engineer by the State of Maryland of the ability to obtain such license within one (1) year of employment.
