Salary: $6,662.93 - $8,254.13 Monthly
The Ideal Candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, be able to manage multiple projects and staff daily, and prioritize departmental needs accordingly. The role of the City Surveyor is broad. The City's needs are varied, diverse, and mission critical for several internal Departments. Because the bulk of survey staff time is spent on construction staking tasks tied to infrastructure funding, the City Surveyor reports to the Construction Manager for day to day operations, but works closely with the City Engineer and others. The City Surveyor is responsible for resolving boundaries and rights-of-ways, monument preservation, and delivering topographic mapping, construction staking, preparing and reviewing legal descriptions, researching and filing of legal documents and records, and training junior staff for succession planning. The incumbent will have the ability to maintain survey equipment, be tech savvy, and able to adapt to emerging survey hardware and software. Under general direction, the City Surveyor will plan, schedule, review, and supervise the work of staff engaged in field and office surveying and right-of-way engineering; and will perform related duties as assigned. JOB SUMMARYUnder general supervision, oversees, plans, organizes and directs the work of a survey crew employed in topographic, construction, and boundary surveying. SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISEDReports to: Construction ManagerSupervises: Survey Technician I, Survey Technician IIDISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICSThe Survey Party Chief performs advanced journey-level survey work as a licensed land surveyor. The Survey Party Chief is distinguished from the lower-level classifications, Survey Technician I and II in that the Survey Party Chief requires the licensure by the State of California and has supervisory responsibilities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSAny combination of education, training, and experience that would likely provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform in the position is qualifying. A typical combination includes:Knowledge of: - Principles and practices of civil engineering, construction and surveying methods- Laws, statutes, and ordinances applicable to legal aspects of boundary surveying- Mathematics, including trigonometry and geometry, as applied to land surveying- Drafting techniques and principles- Operation and maintenance of electronic surveying equipment- Manual and electronic drafting techniques- Functions and capabilities of software programs used in drafting, surveying and engineering such as AutoCAD and Geographical Information systems - Safety methods and techniques applicable to survey work - Principles and practices of supervision, staff development, training, performance evaluation, and discipline assessmentAbility to: - Read and interpret construction and engineering plans- Accurately perform field measurements, sketch and record field notes and computations- Perform engineering-related mathematical computations- Properly operate survey equipment, including transits, theodolite, levels, electronic distance measuring instruments, and global positioning instruments- Research, index, maintain and update records and files- Operate standard office equipment including calculators, drafting equipment, personal computers and software applications for drafting- Utilize computer databases to maintain and update records and files- Work safely in close proximity to vehicular traffic and construction sites- Develop, coordinate an implement projects and activities for assigned crew(s)- Plan, organize, train, direct, and evaluate the work of staff- Communicate effectively in oral and written form - Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted during the course of workEducation: The equivalent of an Associate's Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in land surveying, civil engineering or other related field. Experience: Five (5) years of field surveying experienceCertifications/License:
