The Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine (ACOM) is now recruiting for the following full-time faculty positions to add to our existing team of faculty. These positions include teaching osteopathic medical students throughout our innovative, interdisciplinary, four-year curriculum.
ACOM?is a comprehensive, four-year osteopathic medical college, located in Dothan, Alabama. As an academic division of Southeast Health, the College was founded to help address the shortage of primary care physicians across the region. ACOM was the first osteopathic college established in Alabama and the third medical school in the state. The campus is designed to provide the full student experience with a 110,000-square-foot facility equipped with research and team-based learning centers, as well as a stand-alone simulation lab.? The College has a team of more than 100 faculty and staff, who represent many academic and professional backgrounds. ACOM’s faculty has more than 400 combined years of experience teaching medical students. Many of the faculty have significant research experience in fields, such as microbiology, pulmonary hypertension and medical education. ACOM’s clinical faculty has an array of experiences as practicing physicians, including community-based, hospital-based and military service-based medicine.
Pre-clinical curriculum is delivered through a hybrid, discipline- and system-based model. In the first semester, students are presented core concepts in a discipline-based manner, including basic foundational sciences and anatomy with cadaver dissection. Further pre-clinical instruction utilizes a system-based format, concentrating on clinical integration with a patient-centered focus. This is complemented by longitudinal instruction in osteopathic principles and practice, team-based learning activities, simulation and early standardized patient encounters. Third- and fourth-year clinical curriculum is delivered at community-based hospitals and clinics utilizing an extensive network of physicians throughout Alabama, Florida and Mississippi.
