The Accountant III is responsible for performing complex accounting work in one or more areas of Finance. This position is expected to display considerable initiative in identifying ways to improve and/or streamline processes and internal controls within their areas of responsibility, as well as meeting deadlines. Additionally, this position independently performs complex financial analysis, prepares accounting and financial reports, evaluates financial transactions, can be involved in all aspects of the compilation of the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR). The Accountant III is the third level in a three level Accountant class series.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field from an accredited educational institution; experience equivalent to four (4) years of full-time professional level experience in accounting, auditing, budgeting or closely related financial/fiscal activity which includes some experience utilizing computer or personal computer-based financial system; including a minimum of one year lead/supervisory experience; OR, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties such as those listed above. Preferred/Desirable Qualifications: Experience in governmental accounting and preparation of the CAFR.

Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
