To coordinate, oversee, and perform a variety of professional engineering work in connection with the design and surveying of Agency projects. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS This position is responsible for performing professional civil engineering work. SUPERVISION RECEIVED/EXERCISED Receives direction from the Chief Engineer. Exercises technical supervision over lower level Engineers and technical staff.

PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and use standard office equipment, including a computer; to operate a motor vehicle and to visit various Agency and meeting sites; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person, before groups, and over the telephone. This is a sedentary office classification as well as classification that works in the field and attends public outreach and community events. Standing in work areas and walking between work areas, and in the community, may be required. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator and to operate standard office equipment. Positions in this classification occasionally bend, stoop, kneel, reach, push, and pull drawers open and closed to retrieve and file information. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects up to 25 pounds. Employees work in an office environment with moderate noise levels, controlled temperature conditions, and outdoors being exposed to a variety of weather conditions. Employees may interact with upset staff and/or public and private representatives in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures. Education and/or Experience Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be: Experience: Three years of experience performing journey-level professional civil engineering work. Experience with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Procore, Bluebeam, and/or Innovyze software is desirable. Training: Equivalent to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in civil engineering. Licenses and Certifications Registration as a Professional Civil Engineer in the State of California is required. Possession of a valid California driver's license may be required at the time of appointment.
