The Department of Medicine of McGill University, Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism invites applications for a full time position as a research scientist at the rank of Assistant Professor. This is a position within the Contract Academic Staff and does not confer eligibility for tenure.
The candidate will be expected to develop and lead an independent research program in the area of Diabetes and Metabolism. A focus of investigation of the chronic complications of diabetes will be preferred. This is a position in laboratory-based research with a start-up package and space allocation in the MeDiC (Metabolic Disorders and Complications) Program of the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC), a new state-of-the-art research building.

The McGill University Health Centre is one of McGill’s major teaching hospitals affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at Canada’s internationally renowned McGill University, located in the vibrant and multicultural city of Montreal, in the province of Quebec.
The successful candidate is expected to establish an independent research program. This includes obtaining peer-reviewed external grant funding (e.g., CIHR, NSERC), as well as a personal support award (e.g., FRQ-S).
The candidate will be required to teach and supervise graduate students through an appointment in the Division of Experimental Medicine.
The candidate will also be actively involved in all aspects of McGill’s academic mission (teaching and supervision of trainees and involvement in academic and administrative committees) and will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion in these activities.
Qualifications and Education requirements
• Applicants must have a PhD (or equivalent) in basic biomedical/life sciences (e.g., Biochemistry, Physiology, Pharmacology, Genetics, Immunology).
• Post-PhD, i.e., postdoctoral training for a minimum of three (3) years along with evidence of ability to function as an independent investigator.
• A track record of productivity, i.e., publications.
• Ability to work both independently and in a team.
• Strong communication skills, both oral and written. Previous grant writing and teaching experience will be considered.
• All candidates should be fluent in English and would benefit from a working knowledge of French.
