Sr Project Manager / Estimator
Claude H. Nix Construction (hereafter Nix Construction) has an immediate opening for an outstanding Sr Project Manager / Estimator to lead and manage multiple underground construction projects and estimate additional project opportunities in our service area. The Sr Project Manager / Estimator will report to the VP Operations and is responsible for overall project estimation and project P&L responsibility for assigned projects. The Sr Project Manager / Estimator will be the point person on the team (Project Manager and Estimator) for the client. The Sr Project Manager / Estimator will supervise five direct reports – that include other project managers, project engineers, and field foreman. Additionally, the Sr. Project Manager / Estimator will also manage and coach all of the other field employees on our team. The Sr Project Manager / Estimator directly manages a growing portfolio of approximately $5-10 million in underground construction projects of typical size from the low thousands up to $6 million. The type of work activity typically managed by the Sr Project Manager / Estimator will include underground construction projects using methods of trenching, tunneling, vertical drilling, and pipeline inspections, Initially the Sr Project Manager / Estimator will primarily be managing the current growing book of business; however, a Sr Project Manager / Estimator that also can develop new business opportunities would be a plus and preferred. Finally, while we will consider any highly-skilled, experienced, and good-fitting candidate, we have a preference to find for this position a licensed general contractor in Utah and Wyoming, with a Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management / Mechanical Engineering / or Civil Engineering. Sr. Project Manager / Estimator Position Description:
The Sr Project Manager / Estimator is responsible for compiling competitive bids, developing and maintaining good customer relations and service, and profitability of jobs. The Sr Project Manager / Estimator works at the direction of the VP Operations and coordinates with the project engineers, foreman, and administrative support services, including supervising field management.

Sr Project Manager / Estimator Essential Duties:
1. Coordinate with Operations Manager to develop the weekly “Jobs to Bid” list and maintain the status of the list. 2. Obtain a clear and complete understanding of the specified requirements and the physical conditions on projects to bid. 3. Supervise estimating assistant and coordinate with Operations Manager to complete accurate, competitive bids. 4. Track estimates submitted for industry cost trends in our areas of operation. Know our competition and what their workload is, relative to industry capacity and demand5. Develop and maintain the overall construction/workload schedule. 6. Develop and maintain relationships with current and potential clients, engineers, owners, etc. 7. Track actual production rates, crew efficiency, etc. and ensure estimating software database is up to date. 8. For projects won, a complete understanding of contract commitments and requirements 9. Prepare job information packets for field management for bids won. 10. Ensure project details, i.e. submittals and specific deliverables are provided, are accurate, and timely. 11. Conduct Job Turnover meetings for projects won, providing assigned foreman with a prepared job information packet, production rates bid and any other project details. 12. Prepare and maintain project schedules and budgets. 13. Conduct bi-weekly progress meetings for projects, and attend or hold regular project progress meetings with clients, owners, engineers, etc.. 14. Attend weekly staff coordination meetings. 15. Set up and maintain project controls:
a. Collect and review daily worksheets, safety forms, and checklists from the foreman, and document progress. b. Review and approve required overtime and sign worksheet. Make sure overtime is requested and approved prior to the crew working it. c. Complete payroll summary sheet weekly. d. Communicate with crew to ensure daily/weekly/overall project goals are met and the foreman knows the status of the job. e. Review and approve invoices from vendors. f. Ensure all project documentation is complete, accounted for, and filed properly, including job closeout documentation. g. Negotiate and prepare subcontracts for your projects. h. Prepare and negotiate change orders on projects
16. Communicate with client and field employees, regularly, to ensure quality, safety, profitability, and that contract deadlines are met. 17. Prepare billings and pay estimates by the 25th of the month or as soon as the project is complete. 18. Oversee and coordinate with Foreman and Services Manager, daily construction and service operations, including scheduling equipment and manpower. 19. Monitor the upcoming work and coordinate with VP of Ops to hire appropriate talent as necessary. 20. Coordinate trucking/transport needs with the Shop Manager. 21. Ensure that construction best practices, performance indicators, metrics, and company knowledge/advancement processes are accurate and utilized to increase quality, performance, teamwork, and profitability. 22.
