The Harris Laboratory is seeking a highly motivated Post-Doctoral Fellow to join our team and conduct translational research at the University of Kansas Medical Center in the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology. Our research is focused on understanding metabolic mechanisms of brain aging and traumatic brain injury.
The current NIH-funded project will establish the effects of older age on the bioenergetic response to traumatic brain injury using a rodent model. This research will help the post-doctoral fellow to develop unique expertise in neurometabolism, mitochondrial biology, and functional/behavioral assessments. The post-doctoral fellow will have an opportunity to learn and use advanced preclinical magnetic resonance imaging and spectroscopy, image processing and analysis. The Harris Lab is affiliated with the KU Alzheimer’s Disease Center, the Hoglund Brain Imaging Center, and the Institute of Neurological Discoveries at KUMC, allowing interactions and opportunities for collaboration with neuroscientists across a broad range of disciplines.

The position is available immediately. The candidate should have a recent PhD in a biomedical field (Neuroscience is preferred), demonstrate independence, and possess excellent communication skills. Compensation is according to NIH guidelines and commensurate with experience.
PhD in Neuroscience or a related field from an accredited institution. Expertise in experimental design and data analysis, experience with rodent stereotaxic surgery, animal care, and behavioral assessments, excellent writing and communication skills, and the ability to work independently and lead in a team environment.
Understanding of the biological processes of aging and brain trauma. Knowledge of neuroanatomy, experience with designing/conducting magnetic resonance imaging studies and image processing/analysis, tissue microdissection, molecular analyses of biological samples, tissue staining/immunohistochemistry.
