The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center invites applications and nominations for the position of inaugural Chair of the Department of Biomedical Engineering.
The Department, which was newly created in 2019, will conduct research in diverse fields of biomedical engineering and will seek to translate discoveries into clinical practice.
The successful candidate will have exceptional administrative and organizational skills and a national reputation as a leader in biomedical engineering research and its clinical applications. The individual chosen will have responsibility for the direction and management of the Department and will report to the Vice Provost–Dean of Research. As a chair the candidate will be responsible for recruiting new faculty members who will work collaboratively with investigators at UT Southwestern, UT Dallas, and UT Arlington, to further develop and strengthen joint biomedical engineering graduate programs between these institutions. The Chair will leverage existing strengths in biomedical research across the three institutions and develop new complementary research lines to expand scholarship and funding, promote a culture of excellence and academic success, develop a diverse, cohesive and highly collaborative faculty, and foster translational research programs with leaders of basic science and clinical departments.
Requirements for this position include a doctoral degree in biomedical engineering or in a related area, a substantial record of achievement in biomedical engineering research, and a successful history of competing for grants from federal agencies and/or private funding agencies. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in an aspect of biomedical engineering that has translational or clinical impact for human populations.
