North Carolina Railroad Company (NCRR), located in Raleigh, is planning for the retirement of their Vice President of Engineering, Jim Kessler, PE. With more than 45 years of experience in railroad engineering, and with being a part of AREMA for more than 37 years, Jim is a true champion of rail engineering.
Since 2013, Jim has lead the engineering team at NCRR impacting long-term capital investment decisions, partnering with the engineering staff at freight providers, like Norfolk Southern, and external partners, like NCDOT, plus working on commercial hosting activities with Amtrak, all while supporting the NCRR economic development and real estate teams as NCRR makes strategic investments throughout North Carolina.
This Vice President of Engineering opportunity is significant in engineering leadership, technical oversight, relationship building, project troubleshooting, and forward thinking related to rail and economic development in North Carolina.

Undergraduate Degree in Engineering and Professional Engineering (PE) Certification required. Must have 10+ years of experience in railroad engineering, including 5+ years in a management position.
Exercising this skill-set, serve as the primary coordination point with Norfolk Southern and DOT, Highways and Rail Division, related to engineering planning, design, and construction of projects that impact the NCRR corridor.
