The City of Charlotte’s Department of Transportation (CDOT) is seeking a self-starter with a strong technical background and strong analytical skills to become a member of the Regional Travel Modeling and Analysis Section of the Planning and Design Division. The Charlotte DOT is responsible for maintaining and applying the travel demand model for an eleven county, bi-state region with Charlotte at its center. Transportation planning for this region involves 4 Metropolitan Planning Organizations, 2 Rural Planning Organizations, and 2 State Departments of Transportation.
The person selected for this position will assist with the development and application of the Metrolina Regional Travel Demand Model. He/She will prepare travel demand forecasts and conduct detailed analyses of transportation demand and performance in a team setting using travel demand modeling, meso- and micro-simulation, and geographic information systems software and databases. This position will perform computer programming related to travel demand modeling and traffic analysis. The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated individual with travel demand modeling and traffic analysis experience preferably using TransCAD and Transmodeler / VISSIM. The ideal candidate will be able to communicate technical work to a non-technical audience.
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree with three (3) years of relevant work experience; or a Master’s degree with one (1) years of relevant work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the essential job duties. American Institute of Certified Planners or Engineer Intern designation with the eligibility to sit for Professional Engineers exam within two years is preferred.
