ABOUT THE POSITION
JOB SUMMARY:Conducts basic inspections of commercial and industrial establishments to ensure compliance with Federal EPA, State and local environmental rules and regulations; identifies potential problems or violations of regulations and recommends appropriate corrective action.CLASS CHARACTERISTICS:This class is fully competent to perform technical level inspections and determine compliance with Federal EPA, State and local environmental rules and regulations. This class is distinguished from the Pretreatment Inspector in that the latter is a professional level inspector, requiring extensive knowledge, experience and skill in pretreatment program implementation.This examination will establish an Open Competitive and Promotional list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months or may be extended as needed by the Office of Human Resources.
Education and Experience: Equivalent to graduation from high school supplemented by college level course work in chemistry, biology or a related field and one (1) year of full-time experience in wastewater treatment, collection, operations, laboratory field sampling, or environmental inspections or related regulatory field. Qualifying education and experience must be clearly documented in the "Education" and "Work Experience" sections of the application. Do not substitute a resume for your application or write "see attached resume" on your application.Working Conditions: Work extended shifts or be called back in emergency situations. Work with potential exposure to hazardous chemicals and substances. Work underground and/or in confined spaces. Climbing, lifting, pulling, and carrying required in outdoor environments and possibly on uneven surfaces. Work out of doors in all weather conditions.Licensing and Certification: Must possess a valid Nevada Class C driver's license at time of appointment. Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Nevada Water Environment Association (NWEA) Industrial Waste Inspector Grade I Certification, within one year from date of hire.Some positions may require confined space entry certification.Background Investigation: Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation. Periodically after employment background investigations may be conducted.Medical Examination: Employment is contingent upon the results of a physical examination performed by our examining physician.Pre-Employment Drug Testing: Employment is contingent upon the results of a pre-employment drug examination.
