About the role
We are looking for a Senior Engineer – Geotechnical to be responsible for the site management of design parameters, reading and interpretation of technical instrumentation (piezometers, inclinometers, accelerometers, etc.), reporting quarterly and annual reports to management and government regulators. Ensuring that the best data is utilized in all geotechnical analyses during the Tailings construction and operations.
The intent of the roles is to provide core geotechnical experience and tailings characterization knowledge.
Located in Magna, Utah (20 miles west of Salt Lake City, Utah) and this position reports to the Technical Principal Advisor for Tailings & Water Services.
You will have opportunity to coordinate and report:
o Coordination with Engineer of Record (EOR) on design changes and geotechnical risk mitigations
o Interpretation of embankment geotechnical design parameters
o Reading technical instrumentation (piezometers, inclinometers, accelerators, etc.)
o Processes, analyses and models geotechnical monitoring data to understand the response of deposition and embankment cell construction to ensure stability.
o Provide analysis and interpretation of geotechnical instrumentation to direct “Observational Method” of construction of tailings embankment.
o Oversee execution and implementation of QA/QC program
o Monitoring and managing tailings acid rock drainage (ARD), including analysis and interpretation
o Maintain Automated System for piezometer and geotechnical instrumentation
o Demonstrated ability to implement and manage continuous improvement processes
o Effective and authoritative communication and coaching skills
o Effective time management and personal organizational skills
o Demonstrate an open minded genuine curiosity towards understanding the needs of business and the impact of applied solutions
o Able to work alone and to take and apply feedback
o Proven stakeholder management experience
Education & Qualification Requirements:
o 4 year college degree required in Civil or Mining Engineering with a preference for geotechnical coursework.
o Master’s degree preferred with geotechnical with emphasis geotechnical studies
o FE/EIT certified (minimal)
o PE preferred

Relevant work experience:
o Familiarity with mining, safety and environmental requirements.
