As a Senior Power Engineer/Researcher within INLs National & Homeland Security Directorate, this position will lead and direct research in state-of-the-art power testing and analysis of generation, transmission and distribution systems within the critical infrastructure protections and resilience mission. This position will provide technical direction to analytic efforts, research endeavors, technology solutions and business development support for the power research community, including US public utilities, Department of Defense, DOE, the Intelligence Community and other government agencies. This position will help develop and implement research plans and business strategies that result in significant impact to the National & Homeland Security mission space; assist the successful implementation (cost, schedule, safety, security, environmental compliance, and quality assurance) of associated projects and programs; develop and maintain active relationships with key clients and strategic partnerships with key external stakeholders; provide national and INL technical consultation in areas of expertise, and work as an effective team player with other researchers, line managers, relationship managers, and professional technical/administrative staff from across the INL. Depth of technical knowledge should include several of the following areas: commercial power transmission designs, including protection devices, transformers, generators, control systems, and communications; radio frequency (RF) measurements on electronic systems, including measurement of free field RF environments; Electro-Magnetic Pulse (EMP) test hardening and vulnerability assessments including understanding Smart Grid Technologies, Renewable Integration, EMP effects, phenomenology, protection mechanisms, and coupling predictions. Sets and implements high standards for safety, security, environmental compliance and mission delivery, and oversees successful project/program execution consistent with INL’s standards and procedures to identify and mitigate risk (cost, schedule and quality).
Level 3: Bachelor's Degree and 5 years of relevant experience or Master's and 3 years or PhD and 2 years
Level 4: Bachelor's Degree and 8 years of relevant experience or Master's and 6 years or PhD and 4 years
Preferred disciplines are Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related degree.
